Circles, leaves and shadows, in Barbara Hepworth's garden, St Ives
How do you arrange shapes - circles, curves, squares and other angles, in three dimensions, so they have a satisfying harmony and rhythm, and even melody. How do you make sculpture like music - that what I think she tries to achieve, and often succeeds. And I think she quite possible had a mischievous sense of humour, and was not above incorporating the odd ghost or alien in her work. Here are three of her sculptures, in mono images, which I think bring out their shapes better, but also those of the bold plants whuch make up her garden.
