Prairie Restoration

I'm in charge of a 10 acre prairie restoration at my work.

This is the second year since seeding the prairie. Many of the seeds we planted need several years in the ground before they will germinate. These will all be mowed down soon. During the first several years of a native prairie restoration, the field needs to be mowed about 3 times per year to keep invasive weeds down and establish strong roots. When the prairie is strong enough - we will start burning annually. Hopefully with some time and proper management, we will see a large diverse field of clump grasses, flowers and other forbs.
