Described in a review of the 1848 SPWC Spring Exhibition in The Art Union, Vol. 10, 1848, p. 181, as follows:

 

No. 112. 'The Orphan,' W. HUNT. Yhe orphan is a young Pig which, having lost its mother, is being fed with milk from a bottle by a country girl. The drawing is carefully made out.
