A lithograph after this watercolor by Hunt is one of those included in the 1844 volume entitled Hunt's Comic Sketches, yet this image is no more humorous than any number of Hunt's figure paintings with adults as subjects. In fact anecdotal paintings such as this are more akin to paintings of children created a hundred years later by artists such as Norman Rockwell, although the American typically painted compositions with multiple figures while Hunt almost never did.
