A2 Detail of upper portion of William Henry Hunt's watercolor, Blowing Bubbes
Note the expressive nature of the boy's eyes as he concentrates on the task at hand. In particular, see how the eyes actually focus on the bubble.
The hand holding the pipe is convincingly painted, with the thumb and finger pinched around the pipe and the other three fingers supporting the weight from the pipe and providing stability. The shadows and highlights on the palm are convincingly painted and clearly refect the artist's near-obsession for accurate depictions of details he actually observed in nature.
One of the most telling signs of authenticity is Hunt's close observation of how wet soap bubbles hang down and are distended by the actual soap solution, with some of the excess liquid gathering at he bottom of the bubble.
Compare the detail of the worn bar of soap in this painting with what supposedly is a representtion of the same object in the copy.
