The Temple of Nerva, Rome

Private collection

Watercolor, bodycolor, and gum arabic

15 1/2 X 10 3/8 in.

Signed

Several views of the Temple of Nerva were painted by Prout and exhibited over a number of years at the annual Spring Exhibitions of the Society of Painters in Water-colours. In this example the Temple is viewed more obliquely than in other known versions of the subject. The colors of this painting are cooler and less faded than in most of Prout's other examples of the subject.
