Alex Raymond, Watercolor Painting of Flash Gordon and Secret Agent X-9, c. 1935
This is one of a handful -- perhaps as few as 4 -- paintings in watercolor by one of the greatest comic strip artists, Alex Raymond. Two other watercolors with Flash Gordon alone and one elaborate watercolor of Secret Agent X-9 are known to exit. This is the only example of a watercolor which shows both of Raymond's two earliest creations. No watercolor of the third major character introduced by Raymond in 1934, Jungle Jim, is currently known.
