A SOFT FILTER OVER A STAR FILTER OVER A PRECISELY GROUND LENS

AAW Assignment-Soft Focus

It is my understanding that ALL early cameras had soft lens just because the technique of grinding was so imprecise. Now you have to buy a special "soft" filter to tone down the sharpness and get the same "soft focus" effect..Go Figure...

WIT: I read somewhere that a "soft " filter is a good way to defuse the sharp edges of a photograph's white highlights and still keep the sharp detail of areas surrounding it. With that in mind, I put a Star Filter on the camera and then placed my "Soft Nylon Stocking Filter" over the top of that.

This home made "Stocking" filter has definitely softened the rays created by the star filter however it has created some domestic problems.
