Saint Patrick's Day parade, Cork, 2010 - UN Veterans

The Irish army has had a long history of being involved in U.N. peacekeeping missions, back to the Congo in the '60s, through the Lebanon in the '70s, '80's and '90s, and in Liberia and Chad in the present day.

Every year, ex-servicemen march in the blue beret of the United Nations forces.

The parade was paused, at this point, by where I was standing, so this gentleman was aware that I was taking his portrait and I think he tried to give his best pose for the camera. Thank you!

Wednesday, being St. Patricks Day, the annual parade drew large crowds (estimated at 60,000) onto the streets of Cork.

I travelled in with my new (second-hand) Tamron 70-300 lens to capture some of the action.

The shots posted here are in chronological order of how they were taken in the parade.
