Day 301-Today is Clint Eastwood's birthday, 89 years old! and I decided on this one from my massive Clint collection. This one is near to me in that it was the first movie I ever saw Clint in as a kid, from my parents CED collection. Again, this one was always in circulation with the handful I watched along with my usual cartoon CEDs that they had for me. Its a simple story about a man who is a bare knuckle boxer who falls for a girl and then loses girl and looks for her in Colorado. He also has an ape named Clyde. Its a really funny movie, despite my crappy synopsis and Clint really holds the comedy well. He has great timing and Im surprised he didnt do more comedy like this. I suppose his grisled face and manliness would just not afford that kind of thing. There is a sequel to this called Any Which Way You Can and its serviceable but doesnt stand up to this one. The soundtrack, mostly country, is amazing and works well for this kind of movie. Its def a different kind of movie for Clint and Ive read many times that this is his highest grossing one of all his movies, which is interesting. I chalk it up to Clyde and Ma, played by Ruth Gordon (Maude from Harold and Maude); she steals just about ever scene she is in as this crumougeon lady that is the mother of his friend he lives with, I think....its weird because there is more of an explanation for Clyde than for this relationship! It has some of the most quotable lines and is a classic. Def check it out.
