Gray Wolf
This mottled fellow was about 30-40 yards away from us in an enclosed preserve in north central Wisconsin-- canis lupis, aka Timber Wolf or Western Wolf, the only pure North American species, it turns out, because its cousin, the Red Wolf, seems to be part Coyote. Wolves are commonly seen in northern Wisconsin/Minnesota and throughout southern Canada!
