RESERVED FOR TERRY Fracture Abstract Polymer Clay and Copper Leaf Earrings

SOLD 04/16/13

This is my entry in the March challenge at www.artbeadscene.blogspot.com. This month, the artwork supplying the inspiration for the challenge is "Deer in the Forest," an abstract expressionist painting by Franz Marc.

The first thing that struck me when I saw the painting was the frenetic energy of the color palette and the precisely rendered fracture lines across the surface, which is what makes it abstract.

I tried to capture the energy of the painting in these earrings. I chose to concentrate on the Violet Blue, Russet, and Yellow Ochre colors from the palette to create them. The abstract fracture lines were achieved using copper leaf over polymer clay. I covered the leaf with Colorbox Chalk Inks in Blue Iris, Burnt Umber and Yellow Ochre and added a layer of Pardo Translucent clay tinted with ColorBox Chalk Inks Alabaster and treated with Ranger Copper embossing powder.
