As Republic airstrikes swept the mountainsides, the enemy guns fell silent. Our armored columns pressed this advantage, pushing up towards the stronghold. While this structure was certainly imposing above ground, its true nature went deep underground, stretching out into caves filled with bioluminescent fungi and yawning subterranean canyons streaked with cortosis ore deposits. It was this precious mineral the Separatists were here for, and as we would soon find out, we were already too late to stop them.
We made our way in through the outpost I took out. Techies had dropped some type of holographic mapping probe in which created a map as it went along. All the tunnels were connected underground, so we took the shortest route to the main complex. We followed along, heading ever deeper. The walls of the tunnels were lit by the glow of thousands of blue iridescent mushrooms.
‘Draco’: “Hey boss, care for a snack?”
‘Higgs’: “Negative, if I start glowing as well the enemy will see me coming from a mile away.”
We eventually arrived at a bulkhead door protruding from the rock. It was sliced easily enough, and revealed luxuriously decorated hallways beyond. Whoever built this place, they must have been a high roller. We started clearing rooms, progressing upwards towards where command thought the central operations room would be located. We’d lost contact with those mapping probes after they found the door, so we couldn’t use them again after making entry. The few droids we encountered didn’t put up much of a fight, so I divvied up the unit to cover more ground. After a few minutes Blitz and Draco reported in.
‘Blitz’: “Boss, you better come take a look. We’ve entered into a large cavern, the building we’re in protrudes from a cliff wall here. I see cortosis banding everywhere. This place is large enough to fly transports and I see daylight up above. A couple levels down is a loading platform, should be close to where you are now. I’ve spotted several hostiles, but nothing we can’t handle.”
‘Higgs’: “Copy that. Hold position. We will clear the platform. If the gunships can get in here, that will be a good place to exfil.”
With Bha’lir and Arkan on my heels, I made my way to the platform. As our assigned slicer, an astromech some of the boys had dubbed ‘K9’ worked the door open, I was greeted by the sight of a handful of B1’s and a Trandoshan. The last one was toast before the first hit the deck.
‘Higgs’: “Higgs to command, we have secured a subterranean loading dock, possible ingress location for reinforcements, please advise.”
‘Jester’: “Copy that Higgs. We don’t have any gunships available at this time, but we’ve marked the spot. See you topside, over.”
‘Higgs’: “Solid copy command, see y… What in the blazes? Command, we have incoming, it’s a kriffin’ Ultra!”
We first heard it as a low rumble coming from down below. I peered over the edge of the platform and spotted what I thought was a B2 jet droid. That was odd, as those usually are deployed in droves. Then I realised how close it was, how big it was. This was a B3 Ultra Battle droid. Armored in cortosis plates, equipped with target seeking missiles, a flamethrower and deadly accurate blasters. On top of that, these bastards came with a density generator, meaning even a Jedi would have trouble pushing it over, and small arms had virtually no effect. From the corner of my eye, I saw movement in the control room above the platform. They were one droid armies, and certainly outmatched us. Then the door zipped shut with a loud *thonk*, trapping us on the platform.
‘Higgs’: “Blitz, Draco, get down here, we’ve got a B3 incoming.”
The droid flew up several meters above the platform, then with a reverberating thud landed on a rocky ledge above us. From up high I heard a slithering voice. A tall Trandoshan looked down at us from the parapet.
‘Unknown Trandoshan’: “Weaponsss down, clone filth. Or thissss droid will tear you limb from limb.”
My mind was racing, thinking of how to get my men out of here. I could see no escape besides the edge of the platform, but that drop was I-don’t-know-how-deep, and facing the Ultra was a death sentence. But better to die in glory than in retreat, I decided. I was about to give the order to open fire, when I heard the heartwarming noise of a quad-cip unloading a deadly volley. Blitz and Draco had arrived, and not a second too soon.
‘Higgs’: “Get in there and get this bloody door open. Trooper, bring up that launcher, NOW!”
The B3 jumped down on the platform and unleashed its deadly arsenal upon my men. The two men closest to where it landed were engulfed in flames. We all scrambled for cover amidst the containers and crates that littered the dock. When it had jumped, the metal underfoot had dented slightly, but now it groaned and buckled. *There goes the density generator…* Our blaster bolts pinged off its armor without effect.
‘Blitz’: “Hold on boss, this lizard messed up the controls, can’t open it from here. Found a code for K9 to use, transmitting.”
As smart rockets screamed from the shoulder mount on the behemoth, Draco’s expert shooting was put to the test, taking out each missile within feet from the droid. This was taking too long. Time for plan B. That droid must have increased its weight at least tenfold. A direct hit from a launcher and it would not even flinch. The platform, now that was another matter entirely. I ordered a shot at its feet. The strained metal gave way, and the droid plummeted down. Seconds later, the door opened. As I left the platform, I could already hear the roar of the B3’s jets engaging again.

Managed to pump this out in a little over two day binge build, quite happy with it. I'm planning to make one final build for Mission 20 by the end of the month.
