Nickname: Higgs

2nd Regiment of the 253rd Legion

Objective Dorn

///Log Entry\\\

The battle over Rho Cortack IV raged thick, capitol ships clashing at close range, swarms of droid fighters hunted by squadrons of Republic fighters. Dozens of elite 253rd companies had boarded and disabled CIS cruisers and destroyers. The blockade started to teeter on the edge of breaking. That was the sign for Hawkbat Company to move out. I had already taken to the skies twenty minutes earlier in an ARC-170 starfighter, running a fighter screen around our cruiser, the Resurrector, as part of Green squadron. Each fighter in the squadron was piloted by a company CO. Now our task shifted, from playing defense to punching a hole through the blockade and escort our troops in the latties down to the surface. Nothing I hadn’t done before. One stand-out difference: Green Leader was a Jedi Knight, flying a Delta-7 interceptor. I’d never served under a Jedi before and I have to say, this guy had moves. He said something about ‘sensing’ an opening, and off we went.

Breaking through the blockade was the easy part. Nothing more than a few vulture droids challenged our advance, no match for the Jedi’s flying. The clouds faded as we broke atmo and the target came into view, an enormous mining complex situated in a rugged, rocky landscape. We were to be the second wave of the advance on an entrenched artillery position. The first wave was supposed to land further away and advance on foot, taking out the AA so we could drop in right on top of the target. Comms crackled to life and the callsign of a sergeant belonging to the first wave blasted into my cockpit.

“This is CT-3742, LZ is not clear, repeat, not clear. Droid garrison was larger than anticipated, they’ve got spiders! Abort landing, repeat abAARRGH…”

As his comms went dead, flak suddenly filled the air all around us. A gunship was struck, transforming into a flaming ball of burning metal and fuel. I had to pull hard to the left to avoid becoming a collateral kill. My eyes flashed to the roster. Not my guys. I let out a sigh of relief, although I knew highly skilled ARC-troopers had still been on that bucket, brothers spent like coin in this endless conflict, without the chance of a fighting death. That’s why I hate insertions like these.

///Voice_ID_confirmed[General Chayro]:

"Trooper! Respond! Blast… We must take out those guns, the other landing parties depend on it. All gunships, retreat and take evasive maneuvers, loop around to this position in 79 seconds. Wings 1-1 through 1-6, escort. Wings 2-1 through 2-6, form up for a dive bomb maneuver.”

A solid strategy, I had to agree. Without the gunships to escort our fighters could go much faster. And so, forty seconds later I found myself racing towards the ground at the speed of sound. Flak filled the air, but the AA could not keep up with the speed of our approach. Below I could see the first wave of clones being pushed back by droid reinforcements. The targets were now visible with the naked eye, droid gunners remained at their posts but Trandoshans scrambled for cover. We each tagged an emplacement and armed the ordnance. At the last possible moment I released my torpedoes and pulled up. The entire emplacement was consumed in a towering inferno.

“Objective complete. We are go for landing.”

“Solid copy commander, moving to LZ.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been itching for forever to make another microscale 253rd build, so I jumped at the opportunity to design some microscale ships. I was going to include a gunship, but I wasn't happy yet with the design, so that will come at some point. Soon I will actually post my sig and squad update, wanted to rush this out first.

If I can create a couple more republic fighters to a degree I'm satisfied with, I might make instructions available through the RL instructions store at some point.
