We’ve been marched even farther north now, to Shanxi, to combat a new threat there. We were supposed to encircle the invaders with the help of the 8th Route Army from the north. Instead, the 8th Route Army never came, and now the Japanese have smashed through our front lines. Word has it that the 5th and 14th Army Groups have been completely destroyed, some are even saying that we’ve lost more men here than we did in Nanking. The fighting died down a few days ago, and we’ve managed to slip past several enemy positions, leaving us trapped with our backs against the Huang He. Now we just need to get back across the river to reach the safety of Luoyang.
Some say the communists never showed up because they solely want to control the northern provinces. Others say it was because a series of incidents where our own troops attacked members of the New 4th Army. I don’t care who betrayed who.
I just want to go back to Hubei.
-Side Note-
Putting a story together for this one was fairly challenging. This battle essentially marked the end of KMT-CPC cooperation, and was one of the largest losses for Nationalist manpower, and yet there’s next to no info out there on it.
