5 April 1945- Wierden, Netherlands
L/Cpl. Logan Foster
4th Armoured Division
We got a moment to breathe after clearing out the Hochwald before pushing north back into the Netherlands. It wasn’t too bad at first, taking towns like Delden and Alemlo without seeing much of the Krauts. While the rest of the division pushes farther north, we’re doubling back around to Wierden to the west to cut off a pocket of resistance threatening our flank. As we advanced, I noticed something. At least in the Hochwald, we had some cover in the tree line. Everything here, like being back in the Scheldt, is flat for miles, so the Krauts can see our every move. A combination of roadblocks and antitank guns dug in a ways up the road have stopped our tanks yet again. Our artillery’s been sporadic, hitting pretty much anything but the enemy. Maybe I’ll try calling in the Tiffies instead?
