A home in the wrong place
The blooms of the beautiful Himalayan Balsam. It grows so fast and high every summer, it's now almost blocking the path up from the stream where we walk almost every day. The banks of the stream are lined with it and it's spread into the stream, impeding the flow of water. It was introduced to the UK in 1939 and has become another imported unwelcome plant here. Himalayan balsam is highly toxic if eaten by animals.
There's an upside to this - honey bees love it, all pollinating insects love it. Its scent is delicious and the blooms are beautiful. Let's appreciate it if we can't eradicate it !
