The Hardknott Pass
An "outrageous road" and I drove up the Wrynose and down the Hardknott Pass 9 days ago - and I'm still so exhilarated !! This is the view of the Duddon Valley from a little way down Hardknott. The Roman Fort is visible on the fellside half way down the picture on the right of the single track road (luckily with passing places). First gear all the way ! The first part of the descent down Hardknott Pass contains the most 'outrageous' bit - an impossibly steep series of hairpin bends with sheer drop one side, which made me gasp out loud and think "Well, we either die or I do it!". I did it - and all my admiration goes to my dear sister for trusting me and keeping so calm ! :o) I have a little Peugeot 107 - probably took a year off the engine life.
Afraid Flickr's map doesn't show this terrific road - it's too small and I really don't know how you'd find it except by following a map - but you will if you try :o) NOT to be undertaken lightly !
Have a look at this place and read about it here: Wonderful photos !!
In Praise of Britains two most outrageous roads
Anyway, the sun came out and we got LOTS of photos !! This one's slightly textured to give it a bit more light, using PicMonkey's "Burst".
