Sill Building, Bakersfield, CA

Terrazzo in front of the Constructed in 1939, the Sill Building is an excellent example of a Streamline Moderne architectural style. The three-story, concrete and steel office building is characterized as fireproof. When first constructed, the Kimball and Stone Drug Store occupied the curve of its first floor in 1940. The building was designed by local architect Ernest J. Kump, Jr. (1911 – 1999) and Fresno-based Charles H. Franklin (1891 – 1956). Offices on the upper floors are entered from an exterior corridor, which gives the building a unique open-terrace effect. The building is currently the home of BASE Bakersfield Athletic Supply and Equipment.
