Castle in Coca / Spain

In the late evening light I had a great sky above a fantastic castle from the time of Moorish rule.Birthplace of the famous Roman emperor Theodosius the Great. With a doubt, the most outstanding feature of the town is its castle, one of the best-preserved in Spain.

The Mudejar castle of Coca is considered to be one of the finest examples of brick military architecture. It was ordered to be built at the end of the 15th century by Archbishop Don Alonso de Fonseca, during the reign of Enrique IV of Castile. It has two areas with a square plan, flanked at the corners by polygonal towers, one of them the Keep. It possesses richly-decorated walls distributed around a large Renaissance courtyard and is surrounded by a deep moat. Also worth a visit are the remains of the wal
