caesarion 1
Cleveland Transit no4 (F604UVN) Stockton Depot 1991.
As a result of severe competition from the Co Durham operator 'Trimdon Motor Services', who at the start of de-regulation, made substantial inroads into Cleveland Transit's established territory on Teesside, Cleveland Transit introduced the Leyland Lynx in three batches from 1988. These new buses improved the age profile of the fleet and were better able to deal with the competiton from TMS.
The new vehicles were promoted in the local press as 'Superbuses' and the services they worked were marketed as 'Fastlynx'. The Leyland Lynxes lasted with Stagecoach Transit until the early millenium period, being joined by examples from Busways and elsewhere (notably Cumbria). This one is seen at Stockton Depot in 1991, wearing an overall advert for Lakeside Windows.
