101e3 strolling bear-- trailside

We hiked this weekend with friends in the Great Smoky Mountains, and were thrilled to have several sightings of black bears along the Rainbow Falls trail. The trail consists of several switchbacks in one area. This bear was making his way straight up up the mountain, and we were taking the switchbacks, so we crossed paths a couple of times.

(Zoomed in, cropped--we were about 20 yards away for this shot, and he really didn't care if we were there or not)

More photos to come in the next week--including those of this beauty up a tree, having lunch.

We also saw a mother bear and 3 cubs, but they were in too much shadow, too far away, to get any good shots. We were quite careful to keep our distance there!
