4257ex Huayna Picchu peak
The iconic peak of the Machu Picchu site. This is where the Andes meet the rainforest, with the Urubamba River curving around the base of this mountain.
From this angle you cannot see the Incan city built on mountain terraces hundreds of years ago-- it is behind the greenery on the left of frame. This makes it easier to see how the city was "lost" for so long. ( locals actually farmed the area nearly continuously, only the Colonials believed it to be lost to history).
