3711ex "Bridge to Nowhere" vistas-- Smokies

The concept of having a Foothills Parkway connecting the southern communities ringing the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is decades old. This section had severe engineering challenges due to the terrain and rock type found there. After being started in the 1960s, and essentially "abandoned" for periods of years, this section connecting Wears Valley and Walland Tennessee has finally been completed. 9 bridges in a two mile section were needed, and the engineering know-how (and funding) had to catch up with the needs.

This section was open to the public to be walked prior to being opened for vehicular traffic this past weekend. Such sights and views! Much better seen when walked than when driving by. This is looking south into the GSMNP.
