0444ex September colors

This is from one of the overlooks on the Roaring Fork Motor Trail in the Smokies. A few fall colors are just starting-- the big autumn show won't be here for another month.

 

The trees already without leaves suffered heat damage when the Chimneys fire went through here nearly two years ago. The wind and sparks caused a random pattern of hot and burned areas. You can see, overall the forest is alive and well, and recovering in the areas most heavily damaged.
