4731ex macro Ghost Crab at sunrise

The beaches of the Outer Banks are full of these little Ghost Crabs. They dig burrows in the sand above the surf line by scooping out the sand and throwing it up on the beach. You can see their footprints all over the sand as they scamper from hole to hole for protection.

 

I like the way the early morning light of sunrise highlights his details

 

Zoom in if you wish to see the individual grains of sand clinging to him--even to his eye stalks. Must not bother him, but it makes me want to blink a lot..
