4438ex2 view from Alum Cave Bluff

At 4,950 feet elevation, this view is across wooded forests to some beautiful peaks of the Great Smoky Mountains, within the National Park. This isn't really a cave but a concave bluff.

On the day we hiked up recently, the trail was still snow and ice covered in spots, and huge icicles hung precariously ( and fell) from the overhang 80 feet above. There is still snow on the opposite mountain tops at the higher elevations as well.
