7597ex P900 Keeping the peace, WWII style

The South Pacific was a huge battle theater in World war II. Bora Bora was seen as a prime target after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, so the Allies placed some huge guns on the island to protect the harbors there. Today, they look so out of place in a tropical paradise.

Fortunately, they were never used. They do serve as a reminder of how fragile peace can be in our world.

Check back to my album 2016 Australia, New Zealand and French Polynesia -- should be posting more ( almost) daily
