106e Ramsey Cascades
One of the toughest hikes I have done in the Smokies--- uphill continuously for 4 miles, rising nearly 2400 ft over that time, then fight gravity downhill all the way back again . Yet the falls themselves are worth the trip, if you can do it.
Ramsey Cascades is the tallest waterfall in the park, as well as one of the most spectacular. Water drops 100 feet over rock outcroppings and collects in a small pool where numerous salamanders are often found.
Saw a blogpost today about the falls, and was inspired to dig back into the archives for this one. Enjoy.
