336e wild mustang of Corolla---and egret friend
A herd of wild mustangs has called the Outer Banks of North Carolina home for the past 500 years. they were brought to the "new world" by Spanish explorers whose ships sank off the coast of these barrier islands.
They live off of sea grasses found growing on the sand dunes along the beaches. The egrets befriend them and eat insects found in their coarse hair.
These horses are protected animals-- it is illegal to approach within 50 feet of them. This was taken with a long lens from a legal distance
