Italy. Turin. Piazza Risorgimento. Air-raid shelter. 1/3

Between 1942 and 1944 were built in Turin 45 public air-raid shelters to

protect the people from air raids of the Second World War . The refuge of Piazza

Risorgimento is one of the largest. Its surface is about 700 square meters. It

was built of reinforced concrete and excavated to a depth of 12 meters. It

consists of three parallel tunnels 40 m. long, 4.5 m. wide and 3.30 m. high.

It could hold 1500 people. The lighting was produced by a pedals dynamo, driven

by a bicycle specially modified (please look at 3/3).
