It is all to do with luck when you try to take landscape photos during traveling. You only have limited time slot and if mother nature is not on your side then you are done. My last visit of Hawaii was 20 years ago but I was with my family. This time I selected only a few locations to shoot landscape. Jan and Feb is winter time in Hawaii as well, with rain showers and thunderstorm often. I prefer this than sunny weather.
The weather was raining on and off during my visit. I checked the big botanical garden surrounding and determined to go by the water to get a better view of the mountain. That proved very rewarding despite a long walk on wet dirt path and grasses.
Shot by the lake side towards the mountain to get the spectacular view of the vegetation, ridges and clouds. The side lit sunlight added some contrast on the ridges.
