Lumpy, bumpy pock-marked thing

Squats upon the sand -

Faded, plain and pale, then spring

Makes of it a grand

Flame-bloomed beauty brightening

Dusty desert land.

We hiked in the desert today and saw the beauty of the beavertail cactus in bloom...

 

It was as if Martha Stewart had been all over putting pink tissue paper flowers on the catcus!
