Multi-coloured lighting on HMS Belfast
I am not sure if these coloured lights are a permanent feature or just for the Christmas Holiday.
HMS Belfast is the last big gun armoured warship of World War II in Europe. It was launched in 1938 and began active service in August 1939.This ship is Famous for being involved in the D-Day landings and the Arctic Convoys. The HMS Belfast is now part of the Imperial War Museum and is equipped with video monitors and audiovisual displays to recreate the active days of the cruiser.
Expected to be disposed of as scrap, in 1967 efforts were initiated to preserve Belfast as a museum ship. Brought to London, she was moored on the River Thames near Tower Bridge in the Pool of London. Opened to the public in October 1971 Belfast became a branch of the Imperial War Museum in 1978. A popular tourist attraction, Belfast receives around a quarter of a million visitors per year.
A similar fate may save HMS Ark Royal as there is a campain to save that ship to be moored on the Thames in London.
