LSM B823 Retiro San Martin 100606
ALCo on the blocks at Retiro San Martin.
Looking classy in the new Linea San Martin livery B823 prepares to run round its train, 10th June 2006.
This RSD16 started out as ferrocarril General Bartolome Mitre railway's #5650 in June 1958 (ALCo B/N 82747), on nationalisation it became Ferrocarriles Argentinos #8275, eventually making its way back into private hands with TMS (Transportes Metropolitano San Martin) as B831. It was re-engined, like a lot of its classmates, with an ALCo 12-251C (still rated at 1800/1950 hp) in the early 1990's. Sometime in the early 2000's it was out of service and went for overhaul at the Materfer Workshops in Rosario. Inexplicably emerging in 2006 with B823's identity. Lots of number swapping has historically gone on in Argentina and I've never fully understood why!
