Daybreak at Jaiselmer on Wednesday 7th March 2018. Abu Road 16781 waits to couple up to the rake of train 14809, the 06:45 Express to Jodhpur Junction. It had just worked in on the opposing overnight service, 14810. Shamefully for such an historically significant place with much to see I only spent about 30-minutes here - but those famous sights will long outlive the rapidly fading ALCos. There were also hoards of apprently clueless foreign tourists that I didn't fancy spending much time around.
16781 was rebuilt in July 2017 from a WDM2 to a 3300 hp WDM3A - although it should be classified as a WDM3C but consistency and logic have never been Indian Railways' strong point!
