IR WDP3A 15540 54086 DLI 210318
Things were going very well compared to the previous day's multiple EMD bowl outs and this was my second new WDP3A within an hour or so. 15540 was a beast and stands at Delhi Junction having arrived just over 40 minutes late with train 54086, the 10:25 Passenger from Rewari Junction. Wednesday 21st March 2018.
Having had a pair of Ludhiana WDM3As from Ambala to Delhi Cantt. on the Chandigarh - Mumbai SuperFast (22452) I dropped onto WDP3A 15529 forward to Gurgaon, WDP1M 15004 back to Cantt. on 54310 and WDM3A 16493 out again on the 11:15 Delhi - Rewari stopper. My phone data was working fine so I could see I had a comfortable 25 mintues to double back to Palam to intercept train 54086. It's less than 4 kilometres Cantt. - Palam, so plenty of time, right? Err, no! The driver was a complete windbag and we tottered along then got checked outside Palam and put into the loop platform at a pitiful 10 km/h. Time was tiicking on and I could see a WDP3A approaching the station in the distance. By the time we'd dribbled down the platform too fast to jump off but so slow that 54086 had come to a stand and was being given the right away. Now or never, I jumped off, big back strapped on, legged it down the platform, over the footbridge and just managed to jump into the rear SLR as it was disappearing down the platform, to cheers from fellow occupants of the van as I panted and sweated in the 35 degree heat! Phew, both my feet never touched the ground at the same time!
