Ludhiana WDM3A twins 16661+16435 negotiate the rubbish strewn trackside Delhi suburbs between Adarsh Nagar and Dayabasti whilst working train 22452, the 05:45 Chandigarh - Mumbai Bandra Terminus Bi-Weekly (Sundays/Wednesdays) SuperFast Express. Wednesday 21st March 2018.
This train is one of very few (and certainly the only diesel hauled that I know of) to traverse the curve from the Delhi - Ambala mainline at Adarsh Nagar onto the Rohtak line at Dayabasti.
The scale of the plastic waste problem India faces is clear to see. The railways usually maintain ownership of a considerable strip of land either side of the tracks and it inevitably ends up as rubbish attracting wasteground (garbage and human waste). Near Delhi Cantt. where holes were being dug for electrification masts the depth to which the years of waste build up reaches was scary - metres deep!
