IR Mahabat Khan mausoleum Junagadh 050318
Mahabat Khan mausoleum, with its stunningly intricate architecture, in Junagadh. The tower or minaret on the right (which isn't leaning as the camera suggests!) belongs to the Bahar-ud-din Bahar mausoleum, a separate building but part of the same complex of tombs. Monday March 5th 2018.
"From the early 18th century Junagadh was ruled by the Muslim Babi dynasty, established in c.1735 by Sher Khan Babi. Their tombs, known as maqbara, are situated in enclosures within the city walls in two groups dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, and are some of the most extraordinary and unusual buildings in Gujarat. This is a view of the mausoleum of the Nawabs Mahabat Khan II (r.1851-1882) and Bahadur Khan III (r.1882-1892), father and brother of the Nawab Rasul Khan (r.1892-1911). It has a finely carved façade crowned with clusters of onion domes."
