Katni's EMD WDG4D #70420 at Indore Junction (new platform 5 - a considerable distance from the main station complex) with train 14317, the 15:00 Saturday/Sunday's only Express to Dehradun. Sunday 5th March 2017.
Until the latter months of 2016 this had been a Northern Railway's ALCo turn but since planning and booking my trip TKD WDP4s had become annoyingly prevalent, so I was half expecting an EMD anyway. Somewhat ironically, as it transpires, I was unlucky: with the recent electrification of Dehradun the route north of Gwalior is fully wired and the inevitable switch to electric traction has occurred, 14317's power has reverted to ALCo (Ratlam) for the run up to GWL - it seems I was simply bowled by an offlink! Grrr. Needless to say my planned 16 hour and 700 kilometre overnight to Mathura went in the bin!
