IR 17968R VRI 56514 020216
Short hood close-up view of Golden Rock's WDM3A rebuild 17968R at Vriddhachalam Junction. It was taking over from Erode WDG3A 13513 on train 56514, the 07:15 Bangalore City Jn - Karaikal Fast Passenger, whilst it reversed here. Tuesday 2nd February 2016.
Previous reports had suggested the train was worked by a KJM loco to Cuddalore Port Jn (where it again reversed) for a GOC machine forward, but it appears the links have altered a bit.
I was pleased to see such an aging (35 years old and probably not long for this world) example back on, especially as I'd missed it the previous day working the Tea Garden Express into Karaikal - which, presumably, it didn't return on and did 56513 out to VRI instead?
It was a bit disappointing performance wise, although probably would have smoked heavily had the driver not been a one notch at a time windbag. It did stink of burning oil, indicating a tired power unit.
