LOG GE U15C 35-429 Kabwe Works 240908
Leased ex-South African Railways/Spoornet 35-429 heads a long line of classmates at the Kabwe works of Railway Systems of Zambia. A number had recently arrived in the country a month earlier. Wednesday 24th September 2008.
The U15C was built under licence from General Electric by the Dorman Long Locomotive Group (later Dorbyl) in 1976. Unusually they have interlinked bogies, so Co+Co wheel arrangement. The exact status of the 20 or so Class 35s parked up was unclear, but both LOG and Railway Systems of Zambia are owned by the same financiers, NLPI Logistics. When Spoornet withdrew from the RSZ concession in 2006 serveral ex-SAR Class 34s (U26C) and Class 35s were transferred to NLPI (although none of the Class 34s were seen during our visit).
