Brazilian built 12-cylinder/3000hp General Electric U30-EMP 3010 at Dar-es-Salam TAZARA (Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority) station on Friday 5th September 2008.
The Grindrod/Sheltam loco had arrived on a Rovos Rail luxury landcruise train from Cape Town, a 14-day odyssey on the 1067mm (3' 6") Cape Gauge tracks that connect the route through South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania. Would absolutely love to travel on this but at US$10,000-19,000 (plus single supplement) I'd need to win the lottery (not very likely as I don't do it)!
