Trees Overlooking Longleat

Winter scene at Heaven's Gate, overlooking Longleat in Wiltshire.

To get a very rough idea of how old a tree is, measure the circumference about 5 feet (1.5 m) off the ground, and the age is about 25 years per foot (80 yrs per m). On that basis, the big tree in the centre is about 600 years old, seeded around the time of Christopher Columbus landing in the Americas.
