A.Poulos (Iya)
Unidentified Insect 1
Location: N 40° 30.90' W 121° 09.80' (Lassen National Forest at Silver Lake, California)
Flying Insect Approximately 1.5 - 2.0 inches long.
Habitat: Pine and Fir trees, lakes nearby, elevation: 6500 ft
Pictured with prey (if anyone has a general idea what its prey is, please let me know). Insect was fast for its size. My guess is both prey and predator are a type of wasp. (the prey perhaps family Sphecidae) Found around 9am in late August 2009.
