Amstel (1)
Amstel beer is less well known than Heineken in the U.S. and other export markets, but seems to be a popular brand in the Netherlands. It was brewed in Amsterdam, and takes its name from the Amstel River, which flows through the city. Amstel was taken over by Heineken in 1968, and production was transferred to the main Heineken brewery in Zoeterwoude, near Den Haag.
The ad on the reverse side seems modern for Europe at the time - the modern (presumably upscale) beer drinker,
I drank Amstel at 't Swarte Schaap (The Black Sheep), which was probably my favorite restaurant in Europe at the time. I still have a bill showing this date.
