Tampa - World War II Victory Ship "American Victory"

The World War II Victory ship "American Victory" in the Port of Tampa. I took this photo from the cruise ship before we left. 534 Victory Ships were built during World War II, in 1944 and 1945. They were larger than the Liberty Ships, which were produced in huge numbers in 1941-1945.

The American Victory is now a museum ship. It is seaworthy and occasionally goes on excursions. It was built in 1945. It saw service in the Pacific in the last months of World War II, and in the Vietnam War. It delivered Marshall Plan aid to Europe in 1946-1947, and served occasionally on commercial charter. The ship is 455 ft (139 m) long and is rated at 10,750 tons.
