The Holländisches Viertel (Dutch quarter) was built in 1734-1742, to attract Dutch artisans for an expansion of Potsdam. It is the largest area of Dutch-type houses outside the Netherlands. There are 134 red brick houses, according to one source. The houses in this photo are said to have the original windows. Not enough Dutch craftsmen came, so many of the houses were lived in by various skilled workers, tradesmen, and army officers. This photo is "geotagged."
