Walking on your enemies
Soles of a mummy´s foot case.
Images of bound enemies can be found under the throne of the ancient Egyptian kings and on the soles of the sandals. In this way they symbolically crushed their enemies with each step.
In the Late Period, the motif spread among the ordinar Egyptians. The underside of the mummy´s foot case began to be decorated with a sole of linen or cartonage with images of tied captivities, so that they too could squash their own enemies in the afterlife.
Late Period, no provenance.
