Pyramid of Unas

Pyramid of Unas. The last king of the 5th dynasty.

From the entrance passage slopes down to a corridor-chamber, followed by a horizontal passage, with three granite portcullis slabs. Then the passage goes to the antechamber, from where to the east a doorway to a room with three recesses and to the west the burial chamber. Unas pyramid is the first since Djoser to be decorated. Around the sarcophagus, the walls are lined with white alabaster incised and painted to represent a reed-mat and wood-frame enclosure. The ceiling had golden stars on a blue background. Walls in the burial chamber, antechamber and section of the horizontal passage are covered with vertical columns of carved hieroglyphs. The earliest example of the Pyramid Texts.
